Delegates were briefed on the outcomes of the 2021 Bonn Water Dialogues for Results, the 9th World Water Forum, the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit, the High-Level Symposium on Water at the 2022 UN Ocean Conference, and the Dushanbe Water Conference, as well as on the upcoming Cairo Water Week.

Proposed themes for the UN 2023 Water Conference include water for health, water for development, water for climate, water for cooperation, and the Water Action Decade.

Several speakers supported the proposal to establish a post for a UN Water Envoy.
